Principal's Message

Principal's Message

Dear Troy Families and Community:

I feel very privileged to serve your communities as the principal of Troy School. I grew up in Derby, Vermont, went to North Country Union High School, and have always loved life in our rural Vermont towns. After attending University of Maine and earning a degree in Psychology,  and a Ph.D. from Purdue University in child development and family studies, I taught at the university level until returning to Vermont in 1998. This year (2024) will be my 26th year as an educational leader. Prior to my principalship at Troy School, I served as the NCSU early childhood coordinator, assistant principal of Newport City School, and as principal of Lakeview Union School in Greensboro.

I have a passion for education and especially for small rural schools. It is my belief that small schools offer the best educational experiences for students in rural communities, especially when the school is part of a larger community.

The staff and faculty of Troy School care deeply about all students, and we all have a strong commitment to outdoor education and place-based learning. Our local region is rich with opportunity and potential, and our hope at Trot School is to foster a love of the land and a rich understanding and appreciation for the natural world.
